Volksmarch
Get ready, Memorial Dragons! Our 5th Annual Volksmarch Fundraiser & Event is almost here!
From October 13–30, our Dragons will raise funds to support TEKS-aligned grade-level enrichments, an exciting BMX assembly, and a Memorial family picnic.
On November 2, students will lace up their walking shoes for our Volksmarch Adventure! They'll follow a designated path, collect passport stamps, and explore America, New Braunfels, and Germany through fun facts, history, traditions, and movement activities along the way. It's more than a walk—it's an opportunity to MOVE, EXPLORE, and LEARN!
Every student who completes the Volksmarch will receive a 2026 keepsake pin. Students who raise $5 or more will receive a special gift, and those who raise $25 or more will be entered into prize drawings.
Each student has a 99Pledges fundraising page to share with family and friends. Every donation helps bring these special experiences to life for our Dragons. Let's make every step count!
What is a Volksmarch?
Volksmarching is a form of non-competitive fitness walking that developed in Europe in the mid-late 1960s. It's not a pledge walk, it's not a race, it's just a fun activity for all! Volksmarch means "people's march" and was started to bring together like minded people who loved to get outdoors and walk. Along a Volksmarch path, participants will stop at checkpoints to get their passports stamped. Those who finished the path often receive a pin or patch to add to their hats and vests.
Donations
Memorial PTA is currently seeking donations for our annual Volksmarch fundraiser, taking place in November 2026. This event promotes non-competitive fitness walking and serves as our largest fundraiser of the year.
Leading up to the Volksmarch, students participate in fundraising activities, and the PTA collects donations to provide prizes that incentivize participation. Funds raised directly support our students and staff and help further our overall mission.
In addition to fundraising, the Volksmarch encourages physical activity and fosters a strong sense of community within our school. As a Title 1 school with a high percentage of low-income families, community donations play a vital role in supporting Memorial Elementary.
Your contribution will make a meaningful impact. If you are interested in donating a raffle prize, please email us at memorialelementaryschoolpta@gmail.com. We greatly appreciate your consideration in helping make the Volksmarch a success for the 2026–2027 school year!
