Volksmarch

Get ready Memorial Dragons! Our annual Volksmarch Fundraiser and Event is right around the corner! From October 13th - October 30th, we'll be raising funds to support our amazing students, staff, and school goals. The funds will go toward educational programs, extracurricular activities, and facility improvements. Then, on November 2nd, all students and families can join in the Volksmarch walk! Remember, every donation, no matter the size, helps us reach our goal. Plus, students who raise at least $5 will receive a fidget toy, and those who raise $10 or more will be entered into prize drawings! Let's make this year's Volksmarch the best one yet!

What is a Volksmarch?

Volksmarching is a form of non-competitive fitness walking that developed in Europe in the mid-late 1960s. It's not a pledge walk, it's not a race, it's just a fun activity for all! Volksmarch means "people's march" and was started to bring together like minded people who loved to get outdoors and walk. Along a Volksmarch path, participants will stop at checkpoints to get their passports stamped. Those who finished the path often receive a pin or patch to add to their hats and vests.

Donations

Memorial PTA is currently seeking donations for our annual Volksmarch fundraiser, taking place in November 2026. This event promotes non-competitive fitness walking and serves as our largest fundraiser of the year.

Leading up to the Volksmarch, students participate in fundraising activities, and the PTA collects donations to provide prizes that incentivize participation. Funds raised directly support our students and staff and help further our overall mission.

In addition to fundraising, the Volksmarch encourages physical activity and fosters a strong sense of community within our school. As a Title 1 school with a high percentage of low-income families, community donations play a vital role in supporting Memorial Elementary.
